Mayan hammocks are considered the most comfortable
in the world. A miracle of craftsmanship, these
unique two-person beds are 7 feet and 2 inches
long by a whopping 12 feet wide and are made up
of more than 2 miles of fine cotton cord strung
over hundreds of strong white nylon arm strings--a
construction that is capable of supporting more
than 1,000 pounds. And that's hardly the impressive
part.
The parade of color on these hammocks span fuchsia,
red, fiery orange, sky blue, black, white, and
the greenest of greens: a display as delightful
as the floating feeling you'll get when you rest
on one. Our only caution? When you first open
the package you'll probably be overwhelmed by
the thousands of tiny strings that look like one
daunting tangle. Before hanging, spread the bed
out straight on the ground, then pick up one handle
at a time and shake gently. The strings should
fall out neatly, and you'll be ready to float
in style.
Though most of the products of the Mayan civilization
are lost, the Mayan hammock lives on today. The
Mayan hammock is possibly the highest achievement
in hammock design. Unchallenged as the most comfortable
of all the hammocks.
